A graveside service for David W. Anderson, 68, of Newkirk, OK, formerly of Sherburn, MN, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Sherburn Cemetery in Sherburn, MN. Full military graveside honors will be presented by the Thomas P. Saxton American Legion Post #356 of Sherburn. Following the graveside service, friends and family are invited to remember and celebrate David's life at the Sherburn American Legion in Sherburn, MN, where refreshments will be served. David passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026, at his home in Newkirk, OK. The Kramer Family Funeral Home of Trimont, Sherburn, and Welcome, MN, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
David William Anderson a devoted husband, brother, uncle, and friend, was born on November 2, 1957, to Robert and Joan (Davis) Anderson in Fairmont, MN. He graduated from Sherburn High School in 1976. Following high school, David joined the Navy, serving most of his active duty on the Pacific. After the service, David pursued a career in aircraft maintenance, graduating from Colorado Aero Tech in 1985 with a focus on airframe mechanics. A skilled sheet metal mechanic, David's career brought him around the world. One of his proudest achievements was serving as a DOD Civilian Contractor for the Air Force with Sierra Nevada Corporation from 2010-2016. This placed him in a support role for strategic military aircraft in several war zones around the world, including Africa, South America, the Philippines, and most notable two commitments in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. David was highly respected in his career and was never one to shy away from teaching his skill to the new generation of aircraft mechanics.
David was a committed and loving husband to his wife, Elena, until her passing in 2005. People remember David for having a personality that was outsized, unforgettable, and compassionate. He was a gifted, humorous storyteller who had a keen grasp for every detail. David cared for his brothers, nephew, and nieces deeply and was a constant voice of support and encouragement.
Hobbies of his include classic cars, movies, music, and most of all being a helping hand for those in need. David's warmth and generosity in life endeared him to his many friends and family who always knew they had someone in their corner if needed. He was a friend of the recovery community, particularly Vietnam Era veterans with post-service issues, while crediting the V.A. recovery community and A.A. for helping him maintain over three decades of sobriety. David will be remembered as a person who committed himself to his craft, stayed close to his faith, and cared deeply for others.
Preceded in death by his wife of nine years, Maria Elena Corona Anderson; his mother, Joan Anderson and his father, Robert "Bob" Anderson. David is survived by his brothers, Conrad (Renee) Anderson of Fairmont, MN and Kenneth Anderson of Boulder, CO; as well as a nephew and nieces.
The family requests memorials be made in David's name to the Bravo Zulu House, 2949 230[th] Street, Winnebago, MN 56098.
