Larry Skogerboe

A Celebration of Life for Larry Skogerboe, 81, who passed away at Living Meadows in Madelia on June 24, 2026, will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at the Sherburn American Legion from 1:00 - 3:00 PM.

   Larry was born January 9, 1945 to Verner and Mildred Skogerboe in Frost, MN. After graduation from Sioux Falls College he started his teaching career at Sherburn High School/ Martin County West in 1967.

   Besides teaching, he also coached football, wrestling, and track until retiring from MCW in 2007 after 39 years.

   Larry is survived by his children Brad, Brian, and Jill and several grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister Sharon Moeller and his brother Robert Skogerboe. A special recognition is given to his nephew, Bruce Moeller.

   Remembering Coach

   Larry Skogerboe was more than a teacher and coach. He was a mentor, a friend, and someone who left a lasting impression on generations of students and athletes.

   His former students remember a coach who knew when to push them to be better and when to humble them. They remember his words of advice, his encouragement, and the lessons he taught that reached far beyond the classroom, gym, or track.

   To many, Mr. Skogerboe was an absolute legend. He was a favorite teacher, a wonderful track coach, a respected mentor, and simply a great man.

   One former student shared, “He meant the world to me as a coach. I always wanted to please him. He pushed me when I needed to be pushed, and he humbled me when I needed to be humbled.”

   Others remember him simply and lovingly: “My track coach!! He was the best!” and “Many fond memories of Coach—he was my friend.”

   Larry was admired and respected by so many, and the impact he made will continue through the lives of the students and athletes he taught, coached, encouraged, and believed in.

   He will truly be missed, but never forgotten. God bless Larry’s family, his students, his athletes, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
