Elverna Alice Stade was born on April 7, 1932.  She was the cherished daughter of Louis Friederich Wilhelm Carl Stade and Alice Emilie Mathilde Bargfrede.  Elverna spent her childhood on the family farm near Dunnell, attending a one-room school and learning the values of dedication and hard work that would define her life. She married Harold Herman Knuth on June 3, 1951, beginning a partnership filled with love and commitment.
A woman of unwavering determination, Elverna excelled in every role she embraced. She worked as a bookkeeper for Stroms Clothing Store, served as Church Secretary, and taught Sunday School, always bringing energy and care to her responsibilities.
Family gatherings were a cherished tradition for Elverna, and she made every birthday and holiday special. Her heart was happiest when surrounded by loved ones, and she never missed a grandchild’s program or birthday, regardless of the distance.
Elverna’s passion for gardening, especially irises, began with her mother and was passed down to her daughters. Her prized irises are now flourishing across the United States, from Texas to Michigan, South Dakota, and Iowa.
Music was an integral part of Elverna’s life. She began playing as a church organist at age 16 and continued until her semi-retirement at 93. She also taught piano lessons in Trimont, inspiring countless students and making lessons a joyful experience.
A talented baker, Elverna’s famous Grandma buns and caramel rolls delighted church members and her family. She even held a baking class in Texas, teaching her great-grandkids the secrets of her recipes.  And who could forget her cut-out cookies, gingersnaps, and apple crisp?
Elverna’s creativity was evident in her handiwork. She crafted an intricate 8-foot altar cloth for Immanuel Lutheran Church, a project that took several years, and crocheted over 30 prayer shawls for those in need, carefully recording their names in a notebook.  She loved gathering with friends to play Mahjong and cards, always finding joy in fellowship and laughter.
Left to cherish her memory include her husband, Harold Knuth; children, Dale Knuth, Lori (Michael) Hendrick, Lisa Marotz and Julie (Terry) Gerber; grandchildren, Mike (Jessica) Hendrick Jr., Brad DeRosia, Amanda (Elliot) Moran, Andrew Marotz, Mathew (Jordan) Marotz, Emily (Micah) Perry, Lydia Gerber, and Laura (Ben) Wollmuth; great grandchildren,
Micah, Piper, and Ruby Moran, Clayton, Kaden, Cooper, and Knox Hendrick, Dawson, Luke, Everliegh. and Ava DeRosia; and other relatives and friends.
   Along with her parents,
Louis and Alice Stade, Elverna was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Laura Dornbaugh; sister, Bernice Rosburg; brother-in-law, Donald Rosburg, and many aunts and uncles.
Elverna’s legacy of faith, love, and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew her. She was truly a good and faithful servant, and her light will shine in the hearts of her family for generations to come.
